Light Up Your Website for Hanukkah

Wed, 11/16/2016 - 2:39PM -- jen@jvillagenetwork

It’s hard to believe, but Hanukkah is almost here. Your members are always on the hunt for new ways to celebrate the Festival of Lights and, in the upcoming weeks, they are sure to turn to your website as a key holiday resource.

Here’s What You Need To Do To Prepare:

Freshen Up Your Homepage and ‘Decorate’ it for Hanukkah: Pay special attention to the visual appearance of your website and, in particular, zoom in on images. By prominently displaying attractive Hanukkah photos and graphics, you give visitors a quick way to access more detailed information. If you feel lost, remember, you can always purchasing high-quality images from Adobe Stock or another resource to create a professional and welcoming first impression.

Showcase Hanukkah Event Information: Do your members look forward to your annual latke bake-off? Is your Hanukkah party the must-attend event of the winter season? Community-building events like your Hanukkah party are, in part, what makes your community so special. Be sure to advertise these events on your website homepage like Temple Beth El of Rochester. Provide opportunities for members to register online (see Rodef Shalom). Or, consider adding a visually engaging and informative Hanukkah slide to your slide show.

Learning about Hanukkah: Your goal should be for your website to serve as a hub for all-things-Hanukkah. Consider creating a Hanukkah blessing page like Temple Beth Elohim. Not only are you helping your members deepen their connection to Judaism, but you are establishing your website as a key resource to help them learn more about Jewish tradition. And, don’t forget to add our Hanukkah kit (available at no cost to Jvillage clients) to your website. From recipes to crafts to kid-friendly activities, our Kit is carefully designed to provide your community with even more ways to deepen their celebration. Request your kit >

Include Information for Non-Members: Remember that it’s not just members who are heading to your website during the period leading up to the Hanukkah. Are non-members welcome to attend your Hanukkah-themed events? If so, be sure to include details on how non-members can participate. And as a bonus, consider linking to membership information as well.

Hanukkah is almost here! Taking the care to prepare your website allows you to better support the needs of your members and “illuminate” your community to prospective members. All around a win!
